Noise Analysis & Modeling

Federal and California Lead Agencies often require noise analysis and modeling to ensure new projects meet noise regulations. ECORP’s Noise Analysis and Modeling Services help public agencies and private developers meet the noise assessment requirements in CEQA and NEPA.

Noise Analysis and Modeling Services before Construction

When creating the noise impact portion of an environmental assessment, two types of analyses must be created:

How Does ECORP Perform Noise Analysis and Modeling Services?

While CEQA and NEPA may not establish specific noise regulations, many municipalities throughout California do. These are generally specified within a municipality’s General Plan.

Each noise analysis and model is designed with these numbers in mind, so that proper noise mitigation measures can be applied if necessary. This is part of what makes ECORP’s Noise Analysis and Modeling Services legally defensible.

Additionally, every noise analysis and modeling report created by ECORP is based on a rigorous multi-step process designed to accurately predict increases in noise levels caused by new construction and land use operations.

This includes performing a baseline noise analysis, assessing all sources of future noise, and generating three-dimensional models of future noise levels based on this data. If these models suggest that noise will exceed adopted levels, ECORP recommends specific noise mitigation measures to bring noise levels within the regulatory limits.

Noise levels at six locations around the project site were analyzed with potential increases in noise modeled with and without mitigation. By installing sound barriers, noise levels at locations 3 and 4 are mitigated to beneath legal thresholds.

Performing a noise analysis or creating a noise model is one thing, but making sure that it’s legally defensible is another task altogether. ECORP prides itself on producing legally defensible noise modeling and analysis studies and impact reports.

We use state-of-the-art noise analysis equipment like the Class 1 Larson Davis Soundtrack LXT 1 Class 1 Sound Level Meter and 3-dimensional modeling software to generate precise, project-specific analysis.

Furthermore, we pay close attention to all changing regulations and case laws that affect CEQA and NEPA requirements and update our methodologies appropriately.

Few environmental consulting firms in California keep up with the changing rules, regulations, and case law as persistently as we do. At ECORP we’ve been at the forefront of technical noise modeling in anticipation of upcoming regulations.

Taken together, our rigorous standards, our methodology, our use of baseline monitoring analysis, our 3-dimensional noise models, and our careful attention to legal requirements all add up to a legally defensible noise impact report and environmental analysis that your organization and project can depend on.
