ECORP Staff’s Ongoing Research

At the Society for American Archaeology’s annual conference, ECORP archaeologist Eric Fries presented recent findings from his ongoing research in Belize, in a talk entitled “Elite Influence in the Interstice: New Insights from the Aguacate Sites in Western Belize”. The presentation described the discovery of an ancient Maya palace and shrine complex during fieldwork in 2024, in cooperation with local researchers and communities, and the impacts of this discovery on the understanding of regional settlement patterns.
