Biologist/Assistant Project Manager (mid-senior level)

ECORP has an excellent group of environmental professionals that deliver high-quality services in various disciplines including compliance with the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act, California Environmental Quality Act, and National Environmental Policy Act; surveys and monitoring of biological and cultural resources; GIS analysis; water resources modeling and water rights; and habitat restoration design and implementation. We are looking for biologists/regulatory specialists to join the San Diego office team. This will be an excellent career opportunity to work as part of an outstanding consulting group for a wide variety of public and private projects primarily in Southern California.

You will work closely with technical and management staff on project tasks and on marketing and business development initiatives in coordination with our Orange County, Inland Empire, and northern California offices. You will serve as a project manager, proposal manager, technical lead (i.e. Project Biologist), and supporting team member for a wide range of biological resource analyses studies, and compliance oversight tasks. Daily communication and feedback to Project Managers and Task Managers a must.

The ideal candidate will be a service oriented, motivated self-starter and have previous project management experience, experience with coordinating field survey crews and construction monitors, experience with agency coordination (CDFW, USFWS, Army Corps, etc.) and leading environmental compliance programs, and of course excellent multi-tasking skills.. The ideal candidate must also have proven capabilities to independently conduct field work including: environmental monitoring, habitat assessments, expertise in San Diego MSCP consistency analyses, waters and wetlands delineations, vegetation mapping, general botanical surveys, and sensitive plant species surveys throughout southern California. Practical experience and familiarity with various state and federal laws/regulations with respect to biological resources is fundamental to success in these positions. Expertise in local wetland, botanical, or wildlife resources and familiarity with local survey and reporting requirements is also necessary.

You will be responsible for preparing technical reports and other deliverables including constraints analyses, vegetation mapping, general wildlife or botanical surveys, focused species survey reports, federally and state-listed sensitive species survey reports, and biological resources technical reports and/or a variety of other environmental documents in accordance with CEQA/NEPA. The successful applicant may also be responsible for preparing waters and wetlands delineations, permit applications, and coordination with resource agencies in support of Clean Water Act 404 and 401 applications and Streambed Alteration Agreements. Knowledge of waters permitting and CEQA/NEPA compliance is preferred.

In a typical day you will individually and/or as part of a team perform the following types of tasks:

  • Research, assembly, and synthesis of data related to biological issues;
  • Drafting, editing, and revising technical reports or assembling report data;
  • Coordination with technical staff, administrative staff, GIS staff, word processing staff;
  • Attending project, office, and technical group meetings;
  • Project management;
  • Client contact and agency coordination;
  • Drafting, editing, and revising technical sections of proposal materials or researching background information to develop proposal scopes;
  • Conducting field work; and,
  • Supporting staff on other projects or proposals as directed.

A Bachelor’s degree in biological resources, botany, ecology, wildlife, or related field will be required. USFWS/CDFG permits and MOUs for local species are desired. It is expected that the successful applicant will have 5+ years of professional experience in the Southern California area as well as local project experience (4+ years of experience for a mid-level biologist, and 10+ years of experience for a senior biologist). Applicable advanced degrees and/or USFWS/CDFG permits and MOUs may substitute for years of experience. Strong writing and technical skills will be necessary. Ability to travel between worksites and conduct strenuous field work in inclement weather on steep terrain is also a requirement.

Biologist, On-Call, Mid-Level (Project Hire)

Our San Diego office is looking for a Biologist with a minimum of 3 years of experience in conducting biological surveys in San Diego County, and a Bachelor of Science degree or higher in biology, ecology, or a related science. We are looking for technical expertise in field biology, biological resource assessments, and environmental compliance monitoring and a candidate with demonstrated experience with San Diego County species, ecosystems, and biological reporting requirements.

The desired candidate must have strong communication skills, ability to multitask, technical writing skills, ability produce high quality deliverables and exhibit professionalism in interactions with coworkers, agency staff, and clients.

Responsibilities will include performing biological and botanical fieldwork, conducting biological and botanical research, developing impact assessments, coordinating with project teams, preparing reports, and performing environmental and/or biological monitoring. Travel and fieldwork accounts for 40 to 80 percent of this position. While prioritizing health and safety, this position requires an individual who is able to walk and hike through varying degrees of difficult terrain. Individual may also be required to perform their job responsibilities in inclement weather conditions.

Environmental Planning Manager

ECORP Consulting, Inc. is searching for a service oriented, motivated self-starter to fill the Senior Environmental Planning Manager position in our San Diego office. Successful candidate will build this office’s CEQA/NEPA practice in coordination with our Inland Empire, Orange County, and northern California offices.

We are looking for an individual with a strong working knowledge of CEQA/NEPA compliance regulations, environmental permitting, and land use.

Responsibilities in this position will include training and mentoring staff, preparing and managing environmental documentation for a wide variety of projects, conducting complex analysis of data, interacting with clients on mid-large size projects (budgeting, billing, scheduling, invoicing), preparing proposals, business development and strategic marketing.

Background requirements include Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies, Planning or Natural Sciences or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years of project management experience. Experience with local, private and public sector projects and existing relationships with San Diego County cities, counties, infrastructure agencies and other lead agencies a must. Transportation/transit, infrastructure, residential and commercial developments, utility corridors, parks, schools, open space and renewable energy and resource oriented project experience desired.

Resource agency permitting experience a plus.

Archaeology Field Technicians

Responsibilities may include construction monitoring, pedestrian survey, site mapping and recording, excavation, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology or closely related field, successful completion of an archaeological field school or field methods course at an accredited university, at least 6 months of full time professional experience, and a work history that includes projects in California.Competitive wages are based on level of education and experience.
